Identity theft is the fastest growing crime, in which
someone steals the identity of another after obtaining personal
information (example: social security #, drivers license etc.).
Then uses this information to open new accounts, running up bills
or commit crimes pretending to be the victim.
Information is gathered by sifting through trash bins
looking for bank accounts and credit card statements; other more
high-tech methods involve gaining access corporate databases, fake
e-mails or phone call to steal personal information.
The victim of identity theft suffers various consequences
because of this ever growing fraud. Spending endless hours and unknown
amount of money to try to clear their names.
